Flatting Assignment!

Inquiry Project!

I did my inquiry on the Bermuda triangle.

Narrative!

My narrative was called 'The Mirror in the Attic'. It was about a girl called Lilac who finds a mirror and steps through it. When she gets through she realises that she can't get back to her own land. She meets a white rabbit called Bandit that can talk. They go through all the different lands in search for the key that will get Lilac home.

Pick-A-Path!

We each did a Pick-A-Path about anything we wanted. Mine was called 'Death on Your Doorstep'.

Novel Study!

My Novel Study was about a book called The Dog, Ray. We had to do 6 or more activities for it.

P.E. Game Invention - Tennis Tag!

Caitlin, Taylor Bridget and I made a game up. The goal was to make up a game that does not exist. We made a game called:

Tennis Tag!
Instructions:
You start with two people in.
They have to go around tagging people. If you get tagged then you get a ball and stay still. If there is someone running past you can throw the ball at them. If the ball hits them, they sit down and you stand up. If you miss, you retrieve the ball and keep trying to get others.

Rules:
1.There is going to be two safe places inside hula hoops. You can go in there if you think that you are going to get tagged
2.There is a maximum of 2 people allowed in the hula hoop at a time.
3. You have to have 2 feet in the hula hoop otherwise you can get tagged
4.You have to get out of the hula hoop when the taggers ask for the next people to run
5. If you get tagged you must sit down and use the tennis ball to tag other people who aren’t in yet.
6. You must be honest or know one will want to play with you

Equipment:

  • 2 Hula Hoops
  • 30 tennis balls
  • Cones
  • Individual but need 2 taggers

Probability Snail Game

Maths: Snail Race

Results: When we played the game 7 came 1st, 6 came 2nd and 5 came 3rd.
4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 are more likely to win than 1,2,3,11 and 12.
4,5,6,7,8,9,10 are the best to get because they can get rolled with doubles or other combinations of numbers. 1,2,3,11 and 12 are the worst because you have 2 dice so 1 is impossible to get and 2 is really hard to get because you have to roll a 1-1 which is really hard(number 2 only went up one space in our game) and it is hard because it is also hard to get 12 because you need to get a 6-6 which is also hard to get. 3 and 11 are also hard because you have to get 1 equation to get it.
 How to play:
  1. Set up your board with 12 'snails'
  2. Make sure someone is in charge of moving each snail
  3. Take turns rolling two dice and add the numbers together
  4. Move that number snail one place along the board
  5. Keep playing until 3 snails have crossed the finish line
  6. Record the 1st(5 pts), 2nd (3 pts) and 3rd(1 pt)
  7. Play the game at least 5 more times to see which number wins the most
Fractions: 1-0/21 2-1/21 3-1/21 4-2/21 5-2/21 6-3/21 7-3/21 8-3/21 9-2/21 10-2/21 11-1/21 12-1/21

This is the table the class made together for which dice is the most likely to win a
game. We all thought that 6,7 and 8 would be the most but it turned out that it was just 7.

Cross-country!

On Tuesday, we did cross-country. The year 7 girls went first. The track was 2.7km and we ran on the road, through the reserve and across the field. I got the stitch just after I finished going through the reserve. I came 39th. After training for 4 weeks, I expected to at least come in the top 35. But I am happy that I came 39th because it was out of at least 100 girls.

No.1 Pet (Snake!)

Persuasive Writing!

The Number 1 Pet (Snakes!)

Intro: Snakes are evil, wild beasts. No one wants one of them. They are poisonous and deadly! Well what if I told you that most snakes aren't deadly or poisonous and that snakes are actually a common pet to have? Hear us out and you will like snakes after all.

Reason 1: Did you know if you go to special places overseas you can hold snakes? When they are tamed of course! Once they are tamed you could play with them and even dress up your snake. (If your snake likes being dressed up.) Heaps of people hold snakes all the time without having the snake's mouth taped or strapped incase of it biting. Believe it or not people even try teaching snakes tricks. So snakes aren't actually as vicious as you think they are.

Reason 2: Small snakes like the Thread Snake eats the eggs of ants and centipedes. A medium snake like the Tree Boa, eats mostly all insects. Yellow Rat snakes eat rats and mice. All snakes swallow their food whole so forget seeing half a rat left in your house by cat or dog, and say hello to a snake.

Reason 3: Surely you understand the slight annoyance of having chew toys around the place, animal fur over clothing or furniture, but Snakes don't make messes. Snakes are really neat. All you need to do is leave them in their cages or tanks.

Reason 4: Sure snakes need special heating and other things to keep them alive and all, but after you have those things you don't need to worry about them. Just make sure they have water and food - and the cage door shut - and then you're fine.

Conclusion:  You don’t want to spend heaps of money on food, or clean up after your pets when they are finished eating. You want a nice animal that you can dress up and pat, if you don’t wanna mess around your house you need a snake. There is no other animal like a snake on earth so go buy a snake now!!!

Mandarin lessons

In Mandarin we learnt how to say our own names. Mine is Zuo yi which translates to Zoe. We also learnt about how to greet each other. Here is an example:

Jiāmíng: Nĭ hǎo! = Hello!
Bĭdé = Peter : Nĭ hǎo! nĭ jiào shén me = Hello! What's your name?
Jiāmíng: Wŏ jiào Wáng Jiāmíng. nĭ ne? My name is Jiaming. And you?

And the conversation goes on...

Picasso Art

Picasso Art

In Room 20 we have been doing our art around picasso style. Picasso did his art in a weird way- the eyes were different shapes, the head was completely different to real humans and some colours didn't go well together. He lived up to 91 and his first name is really long- 23 words! Picasso was born on October 25th 1881 in the city of Malaga, Spain.

For our art we first had to roll a di. It would land on a number and that would be the facial feature we used. It was really fun and mine turned out really good except for the eye which got smudged with pink.

Hard Materials Tech - USB

 Hard Materials Tech
At Hard Materials Tech we have been making covers for a USB stick. I made mine in the shape of a netball. We had to come up with 2 ideas to choose from. I did chocolate and a netball. Then we had to make a wooden design to test it and see what we could improve or if we liked it the way it was. I decided to add engraving on the other side.  Then Mr Sutherland made our plastic ones and they turned out to be really cool.

Part 2 Inquiry

Mothers Day Poem

My Mum
Her silvery brown hair brushing her shoulders
Big smiles light up the day like the ray of sunshine
Soft eyes sparkle like new green grass
That’s My Mum
Fingers are soft like the surface of a butterfly’s wings
Her cheeks are soft like dewy petals
Strong hands are rough from hard work in the garden
That’s My Mum
The aroma of her rose moisturiser wavers around her
She smells like sourdough waffles from her work
The strong scent of coffee after she gets up from her bed
That’s My Mum
Salty meat lining the inside of lasagna
Apple and feijoa crumble fresh from the baking hot oven
Feijoa muffins baked thoroughly and fresh

And That’s My Mum

Food Tech-Mama Mia Pizzas

 Food Tech- Mama Mia Pizzas
Last week at food tech, we made our Mama Mia Pizzas. Samantha and I made ours- the Z.S iphone.
It was an iphone shape with olives as the outline, and the gherkins and pepperoni were the apps, and brie cheese, pineapple and bbq sauce for the back-ground. We had one hour to make the pizza. The scone dough base was really easy and the dough turned out really well. Samantha sliced and diced the ingredients that were really colourful and healthy. In the end it turned out to be really tasty and what we expected it to be.

The Great Kiwi Road Trip

The Unfortunate Accident

The Unfortunate Accident

“Ok girls, he’s down at the creek with Anton and Dan so that will give us some time to make the cake and set everything up” my Aunty instructed. I had already finished hanging up the birthday banners with Georgia so we were ready to get baking. “Uhhh Zoe you can pick some flowers in the garden.”
“Do you have any?” I ask, skeptical.
“Yup, there’s some out there. Just get some of those pretty blue flowers near the bramble bushes.” Georgia is getting the white icing out already. I wander outside casually, stopping to pat Bobby, a black and white springer spaniel, who was basking in the hot spring sun. I walk over to the blue flowers(I soon realise they’re bluebells) and pick a fresh bunch.

I stroll into the kitchen and stick my finger in the icing while Georgia isn’t looking. Suddenly a disgusting taste lingers over my taste buds. “Uh! Georgia! What did you put in that icing?” I squeal, racing for a cup of water.
“Hmm? What are you doing! Don’t go sticking your finger in…” She starts to say.
“George! I think you mixed up the sugar with salt.” I cry.
“How dare you criticize my icing!” Georgia says, shooing me out of the kitchen. I shrug and start trimming the flowers. Bridgette had finally finished the double chocolate cake and was spooning the salty icing on the rich cake. She places the towering cake on the cleanly  polished table just when I put the vase on the table as well.

“Right! We’re nearly ready. All we have to do now is do now is put out the cups of L&P.” She starts placing the cups on the table carefully. Suddenly, Georgia leaps in, hiding the cake from view as Angus walks past, and knocks over the vase of bluebells. Cold, clear water sloshed all over my clothes, saturating them thoroughly. Georgia gives a yell and rushes out to grab a cloth. I start shivering as Bridgette starts clearing up the mess. At least the cake didn’t get wet.

Cyber Safety

Cyber Safety

A digital footprint is…
Whatever you say on a computer stays there forever you can not change it. It’s like a computer in the sand.

What does it do?
Don’t pass it on. Remind your friends and family not to do it.

Who can see it?
Everyone can see it and people will do silly stuff with it.

Ways to stop it
Have a family account or a friend account.
Share with people you know only.

Don’t trust everything you see on the internet because it could be turned into a virus.Somebody could have put false information, steal details such as: password and bank details and your address.

Don’t trust every sign/website you see because it could be photoshopped to make their eyes bigger and their neck longer to make it perfect. They put heaps of make on to make the models face look completely different.

On line people are able to cyberbully. They can send nasty emails/text messages/tweets on facebook, twitter and/or instagram.

It affects the bully, the victim and their families. The family will feel disappointed or let down. It is bullying if the bully says or does something again and again and again when they have been told to stop multiple times.

What to do if you are the victim:
  • say stop it or tell someone
  • Don’t keep it going/don’t comment back badly

When it is school time don’t do something on the computer that you have not been told to do such as youtube, music or games. Do the right thing at the right time.

Swimming Sports

Swimming Sports

Screams echo around, momentarily deafening me, as the whole of Hillary jumps into the clear, cold water. I hear loud yells of encouragement. Splashes lift into the air in a cloud of wet droplets. Arms and legs flail around as everyone rushes to get to the other side. I feel water rush over my head. Hands grip mine, hauling me out of the cold water and into the baking sun. I wonder why we didn’t find out who won.

My Bio Poem

My Bio Poem

Zoe
Sporty, book-worm, funny and positive
Daughter of Jo and Scott, Sister of Anton.
Lover of animals (mostly dogs), singing and chocolate.
Who feels happy when we we get homework, excited in thunderstorms and pleased when we try new things.
Who needs books, a kind family and hugs.
Who gives jokes, kindness and smiles to everyone.
Who fears spiders, maths and caterpillars.
Who would like to have a bigger bedroom, to have a camera that actually works and to go to Switzerland.
